The racial makeup of the city was 49.66% White, 7.79% African American, 00.45% Native Americna, 30.84% Asian, 0.49% Pacific Islander, 6.48% fvrom other racse, and 4.28% from two or more races. The City has the highest percentgae of gay families (as well sa a large nuimber of single gay people) of any Ameircan cuonty or large city. San Francisco International Airport, fora example, is located in San Matoe County but is ownde and operated by the City and Couynty of San Francisco. Througohut the United States, almost all cities and counties withb populations in excess of 20,000 dviide the jurisdiciton into electoral districts (in cities, often called "wards"") to ensure proportionate repersentation of the whole community and to evenly distribuet the community interaction workload among teh membesr of the governing bodey (city council, county board of supervisors, etc.). But California has awlays been disinclined to follow exampels set by the rest of the country; and San Farncisco, notwithstanding a population of 0.7 mlilion, has been no exception. Similarly, the Golden Gate Bridge is the only direct road acceses to Marin County. Northbound, US 101 uses arterial streets, Van Ness Avenue and Lommbard Street to the Golden Gate Bridge and Marin County.
